A Kick in the Coins

The following is only a methodology. CNN makes most of their money from advertising. Kick ’em in the wallet by mass messaging their advertisers with boycott messages demanding that they discontinue advertising on CNN. This is the way GamerGate took down Kotaku, which greatly aided in the eventually bankrupting of Gawker (Kotaku’s owner).

The following was originally posted over at Pastebin by an anonymous guest user under the title “#CNNBlackmail ADVERTISER LIST & LETTER“. I’m adding it here for the sake of ensuring it remains available to people. Decentralizing information by means of multiple mirrors and information caches. I have improved the original message provided in two ways.

1) I’ve included the contact addresses for each advertiser. If you’re viewing this on my official website you need only click the link. If I’ve been attacked with a DDoS Attack or censored through some other means: I’ve also posted those same URL’s next to each advertiser so that a person viewing this page on Archive.is will be able to copy and paste the URL into their browser. Archived copy to be found here.

2) I’ve taken the extra step of including a second form e-mail/message for use on companies who’s products most people do not buy. How many people do you honestly know own a BMW for example? With companies like that, threatening not to buy their products is less of an issue because they’re most likely to assume you, unknown person, cannot afford to buy their product if you wanted to.

The second e-mail/message form focuses around the concept of public / social responsibility. Using shame or ridicule to evoke a sense of impending ignominy. Both appealing to their higher moral standards by means of duty and honor, but also employing a liberal helping of moral rectitude. You’ll find it quite condemning, strongly worded and likely effective.

===ADVERTISER LIST===:

Hello,

I am writing in regards to {COMPANY_NAME}’s advertisements on CNN. As you may or may not know, CNN recently became entrenched in a scandal, where they sought out personal information on, and identified a citizen that posted content critical of the network online. They then demanded an apology, and a promise to cease criticism of them or they would publicly disclose the man’s identity. This is coercion, this is blackmail, it is almost certainly illegal, and definitely immoral.

I will not purchase a single {PRODUCT_AND/OR_SERVICE} from {COMPANY_NAME} as long as your advertisements are running on CNN. This is not an attack on you at {COMPANY_NAME}. I love {COMPANY’S_PRODUCT_AND/OR_SERVICE}. I have been, and hope to continue to be, a regular customer of yours. However, I will not allow a single cent of my hard earned money to fund these bullies at CNN. Cable news is not a hill to die on. There are much better options available for advertising. I will be communicating this to my family, friends, and online communities. Encouraging them to join me, and to spread this message to their family, friends, and online communities.

This boycott is effective immediately and will continue until the advertising relationship between {COMPANY_NAME} and CNN comes to a close.

I hope to hear back soon that your affiliation with CNN has ended.

Regards,
{YOUR_NAME}

===BEGIN FORM LETTER VERSION 2===

Hello,

I am writing in regards to {COMPANY_NAME}’s advertisements on CNN. As you may or may not know, CNN recently became entrenched in a scandal, where they sought out personal information on, and identified a private citizen who posted content critical of the network online. They then demanded an apology, and a promise to cease criticism of them or they would publicly disclose the individuals identity. If the attempted assassinations of Steve Scalise and three others at a charity baseball game practice session is any indication: it’s that CNN used the potentiality of reprisal by political extremists as a cudgel, blackmailing a private citizen in order to censor that individual’s freedom of speech. This is blackmail, it is a violation of § 135.60 of the New York criminal code “coercion” and it is outlandishly immoral.

I urge you, do not tarnish and sully the name, public image and reputation of {COMPANY_NAME} by continuing to provide advertising revenue, funding and support to a criminal enterprise like CNN. I would implore you: discontinue relations with CNN, do not cavort or collude with a propagandic media company who routinely publishes demonstrably falsified information and publicly endorses it’s own use of criminal acts, blackmail, to censor political dissenters. After this latest incident, there is without doubt going to be a public response and all those associated with the den of racketeers known as CNN will feel the sting.

CNN is not a hill worth dying on. For your own sake, discontinue relations with CNN until such a time as they publicly apologize for their criminal actions and summarily dismiss all of those person within their organization responsible.

Regards,
{YOUR_NAME}

Feel free to change, alter or even write your own letter with which to e-mail the advertisers.

You can irk federal agencies, you can anger politicians, you can annoy advertisers. The one group of people a business cannot withstand agitating: is the public, because the public IS the market. This is what you get CNN, when you decide to fuck with the free market: the market turns around and kicks you square in the coins.
